Adopted WIP

It has been a busy few months filled with good times and a few trying events. Grateful for all, that's for sure.

Several weeks ago I adopted three WIPs from a local craft thrift store. It was thrilling, to say the very least. 

Evidently the very capable stitcher had to downsize his living situation, so he donated them to this store. As luck would have it, I walked in there the day after they were donated. 

This one is from Hands Across the Sea and it is called When Thou Art Rich. 

I purchased the project, scroll frame, silk threads, and chart. It is a real beauty! 

Everything was so neatly organized in labeled Floss Away bags. There were even extra AVAS silk skeins that were unopened. It was easy to pick it up and get going after I changed a bit of  the chart.

I am okay with satin stitches, but just the same I instead recharted the upcoming satin stitch ones into cross stitches. 

Upon close inspection at home, I saw that what I thought were cross stitches were actually tiny algerian eyelets. The fabric is 42 count.  The scripture in the piece is done in algerian eyelets and one-over-one stitching. Thus I removed the writing that had been done, and recharted the band to an undulating vine and flowers. The stitcher had done such a beautiful job on the letters he had done, but there was no way I wanted to carry on with the same stitches. 

I really enjoyed using graph paper to rechart all of the things I wanted to change. I marvel at what designers do. I see how hard it is!

Here is what I have done so far: 

Progress is slow. I do find 42 count to be a bit of a challenge due to my eyesight at this point.  Nonetheless I will carry on with this lovely piece. 

I find lately I have been working much on a different adopted WIP that I have also recharted a bit. I will share more on that here another time. 

At this point I am up to seven WIPs. I had just three WIPS going  for quite awhile, but that amount has increased quite a bit! This is due to adding a SAL piece that I am doing with my dear friend as well as my three adopted WIPs.

 I recently picked up Sarah B from our framer. We are so happy with how this piece looks!

More Satin Stitches...

I am still working on the satin stitches. Someday I will be done with them. For now, I am enjoying the process.

At this point it is just the interior satin stitches.  The double satin border will come later.

More Progress on Sarah B

I have been steadily working on Sarah.  All of the motifs are completed, and now it is time to stitch all the satin stitches. And I mean ALL--there are a lot of them scattered throughout the piece. I probably should have done them as I went along instead of waiting until the end.

First I am working on the center parts, last will be the double satin stitch border.

Sarah B Progress

Summer is quickly passing by us. We are staying home, relishing simple things.

I am still working on Sarah B. I will need to go back and do all the satin stitches, as well as the rest of the lettering. These parts will take me a long time, to be sure.

 On a positive note, I am almost done with the motifs!

Progress on Sarah

It has been a busy few weeks around here. We are still staying home.  Many orders have been lifted in our area and there is more freedom to go places, but we choose to stay in our home.  When we go outside, we wear masks and are very cautious.

 We have also been isolated from other family members and friends since the middle part of March.  We miss them all so much!

Zoom meetings help a bit in staying connected, but it's not quite the same. Nonetheless we are grateful that we have technology.

Lately I have been working on Sarah Braizear 1829.  Here is my progress on this piece.  I'm finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

Learning Curve on the iPad , Some Progress, and Neighborhood Flowers

While on our evening walk we viewed a gorgeous scene in our neighborhood.  The jacaranda trees' leaves adorned the street in lovely purple hues.

Progress, Stitch by Stitch

I have been busy working on Fruit Bellpull and more recently Sarah Braizear 1829.

So much is going on in the world, and my heart is sad from so many things.  Stitching is a wonderfully creative solace in times of strife and discord. 

We continue our sheltering at home, and being safe as possible in light of this pandemic.

Sarah Braizear 1829 WIP

I have been slowly progressing on several projects, and it has been wonderful having more stitching time in my life.

Here is Sarah Braizear 1829 as of a few weeks ago.  I am enjoying her a lot! She is a huge girl, that's for sure.

I have not been very active on this blog lately, but I vow to amend my ways.

Welcome, Summer! A WIP and A New Season

I have been working on Sarah Braizear 1829 for a year now. I am so enjoying her!

Nonetheless, I decided to start two new pieces and I will share those here another day soon.

I have recently retired and am elated to have a new, more relaxed lifestyle.  I loved what I did, but I am now loving this new phase of life. The last month of work was very intense and busy, so it's been refreshing to unwind for the first few weeks of June.

Each end of May and early June we await the blooming of the jacaranda trees in our area.  I took this photo while on a morning walk last week.  They are so wonderful to behold!

Here is a group of photos taken of Sarah B.  This represents the last few months' work.  I have done some satin stitching in the last few months which has been a nice change from the usual stitches.
